MAPgroup photographer Jessie Boylan has two exhibitions in Brisbane, coming up very soon.
Portrait of a Whistleblower chronicles the life of Maralinga nuclear veteran and whistleblower Avon Hudson. Combining artefacts and archival photographs, as well as photomedia by Jessie, this exhibition reveals a young RAAF serviceman’s exposé of one of Australia’s largest atomic cover-ups.
Ngurini is an installation which came out of community arts with remote Aboriginal communities, exploring the forced relocation and inter-generational response of Pitjantjatjara Anangu in the aftermath of South Australia’s atomic experiments. The original and poignant artwork embodies community stories of landscape and migration, and is inspired by the resilience and hopes of current generations.
Both exhibitions open 21 July, 5-7pm and run until 7 August at The Block, QUT Creative Industires Precinct, Brisbane.
