Based in New South Wales, Ruth Maddison's career encompasses freelance work, commissions, special projects, lecturing, publications and exhibitions. Her work is predominantly documentary and portraiture and she is interested in stories of community, family, recreational, domestic and working life. 

Ruth has been a winner of the City of Hobart Art Prize and the Josephine Ulrick and Win Schubert Photography Award as well as the recipient of several artist’s residencies and grants.

Her first solo exhibition was in 1979 and her most recent in 2017. Ruth's work is held in many galleries and picture library collections, at both a state and national level.
