MAP Group

The “Many Australian Photographers Group,” known as MAP Group, is a non-profit association of around fifty photographers who share a passion and commitment to high quality, independent documentary image making. Our photographers range from emerging to well established, many of whom are recipients of national and international awards.

The photographers of MAP Group have undertaken a number of photographic projects in recent years. Our biggest project to date has been a nation-wide philanthropic project documenting the drought and its impact on Australia’s water resources. Titled 'Beyond Reasonable Drought', this ambitious project aimed to record the impact of this long-running drought on the land, the people and the psyche of the nation. With a handsome book and a touring exhibition of images from 'Beyond Reasonable Drought', MAP Group is justifiably proud of this project.

The publication of 5000 hardback copies of 'Beyond Reasonable Drought' by Five Mile Press in December 2009, followed by a hardback reprint of 2,500 copies early in 2010 was a very public acknowledgement of the hard work and talent many MAP members devoted to this long term project. 'Beyond Reasonable Drought' is now in its third printing, this time with a softback cover. Approximately A4 size, the book contains 216 pages. More information here

The touring 82 print exhibition component of 'Beyond Reasonable Drought' is managed by the Museum of Australian Democracy. More information here.
