BEYOND AGE

Victoria’s Black Saturday bushfires of February 2009 are often described as a once-in-a-lifetime event. But in the Shire of Murrindindi, north-east of Melbourne, where some of the worst loss of life and property occurred, there are many people whose lives and memories go back to the fires of 1939 - and even further. More than 15 per cent of the shire’s population (higher than the national average) are aged 65 and over.

In 2010, MAPgroup, in conjunction with the shire, recorded the images and stories of some of the older residents. The result was an exhibition titled Beyond Age, which was seen in a number of venues throughout the region.

The images from Beyond Age were also published in a hard copy publication (no longer available) but can be viewed online here: https://issuu.com/briancarr41/docs/beyondage-new
